The Staffbase Legal team is a mighty (and growing!) team, that works across all Staffbase departments to support the business in our rapid and international expansion. At Staffbase Legal, our core values are plain language, business acumen, and finding workable and pragmatic solutions to legal problems. We also constantly examine how we can improve our processes, templates, and policies to improve the experience for our customers and our team here at Staffbase.
As part of this role, you’ll be reporting directly to the Senior Counsel, Commercial, who is based in Berlin, Germany. You will support the commercial function in the DACH and Venture Markets regions (UK, Ireland, South Africa, Benelux, Nordics, APJ), dealing with the sales and procurement teams. As DACH is a core region, you will need to be comfortable conducting legal negotiations in German as well as having familiarity with German and civil law SaaS contracts. We’re looking for a highly motivated, driven and self-starting individual who loves to work in a diverse and international team.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing and drafting legal documents for Go-to-Market teams (e.g. MSAs, DPAs, order forms, RFPs and RFQs, and other commercial documents related to sales deals) in English and German,
- Reviewing and amending vendor terms and conditions on procurement matters (e.g. SaaS purchases, marketing, consultancy agreements)
- Creating and updating internal documentation and guided learning material for non-legal colleagues
- Developing legal processes in line with commercial practice in the SaaS industry
- Collaborating with the Commercial Legal team on deals, templates and playbooks
- Coaching paralegals and working students
- Reacting quickly to queries directed to the legal team, in keeping with our “Easy to Work With” values.
What you need to be successful
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English (minimum requirement C1).
- Qualified to practise law in Germany (2. German State Exam) or another European country including the UK (Master of Laws or similar).
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in an in-house legal department or law firm
- Proven experience as a commercial lawyer with a strong track record of drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Excellent understanding of contract law and principles in civil law jurisdictions.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance legal and business considerations.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Flexibility to work out-of-hours to support regional markets in multiple timezones on occasion.
Great to haves:
- SaaS or software industry experience.
- In-house legal experience in a start-up/scale-up
- Familiarity with contract law and principles in common law jurisdictions
- Familiarity with working with tech tools like Ironclad, Salesforce, Confluence, and Jira,
